SMR Streaming on Twitch every Tuesday night!

SP is back! Every Tuesday at 8:30pm (eastern), SP has been streaming live on Twitch…

Tuesday nights @ twitch.tv/therealdjsp

“I’m glad to be back online and getting to play tunes to an audience again. With the pandemic throwing the world into chaos, a lot of folks went to streaming DJ sets. I didn’t hop on the train early on due to a number of reasons, but I felt like it made sense to start doing something again in the DJ realm, now that I’ve been back in the studio making tunes and remixes… One just kinda lends itself to the other, you know?”

You can find SP over on twitch.tv/therealdjsp, playing every Tuesday night for at least an hour (usually a bit longer), along with the audio rips of the stream available on his Mixcloud page – typically posted one week behind the live show.

Methodus b2b SP ft. Diggadee MC @ Bassdrive Sessions Miami [LIVE Mix]

So, SP is off this week… he’s heading to Orlando with Methodus to hit up Dub Factory (and we hear that he’ll be spending some time with the world’s most famous mouse as well), so he’s got something special to share with you. We’ll let him describe it:

This night was probably the highlight of my DJ career thus far. WMC is always a great time – with good people and good music – but this year was really something special. I played dubstep at the 10th Anniversary of Future Sound of Breaks of Friday night, and Bassdrive Sessions Miami on Saturday. And yes, both parties were great events, but Bassdrive took the cake for me. The people, the vibe and the energy at Jazid were spectacular… and I always love playing back to back with Jon (Methodus), but to open for the Godfather of drum & bass – Goldie – was a privilege and an honor. There was just something about this set and the night in general – Jon and I both agree – that was just really special…

With that, we present to you: Methodus & SP back to back, featuring Diggadee MC, LIVE from Bassdrive Sessions Miami 2012!

On Sunday, our friend Jon Methodus – the host of Bassdrive.com’s Revival Radio and one of SP’s oldest friends and DJ partners – announced that SP will be taking over as the co-host of the show.

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is one of those holidays that the music scene has really taken an affinity to… we know, because of the enormous amount of music that comes out around Halloween, let alone the number of Halloween-themed songs making the rounds, are enormous. Today being the most spooky day of the year, we thought it’d be nice to share some of the more recent creepy, crawly, sinister and scary releases with you – including some of the free give-aways and LPs/EPs available for purchase.

First and foremost is one of our favorite new producers, Figure. In-time for the holiday, he released part 2 of his Monsters of Drumstep series, which includes some seriously sick takes on some of the most classic Halloween themes and films, and features remixes from a few of today’s hottest producers.

Figure – Monsters of Drumstep Vol 2 by Figure

And to promote the release, Mad Decent stepped in and let Figure smash the decks for a special promo mix as well.

MDWWR #71 FIGURE – MAD DECENT MONSTER MIX by Mad Decent

And even better than that, Figure’s been kind enough to drop a ton of free Halloween-inspired tunes!
FREE HALLOWEEN TRACKS by Figure

Figure’s first Monsters of Drumstep EP was released on Reid Speed’s PLAY ME 2 label, who also just released their new Horrors Of Halloween EP (Beatport link), with tracks from Devin Martin, Dirty Talk, Run DMT, Drop Goblin and Dirt Monkey.

Another label getting in on the action is Faust & Shortee’s Heavy Artillery Recordings. Producing under the Urban Assault moniker, Faust & Shortee gave away this little gem simply entitled Halloween.

Urban Assault – Halloween (Free Download!!) by HEAVY ARTILLERY RECS

Of course, we wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we didn’t self-promote! SP’s newest contribution to his ongoing list of mixes is entitled NO ESCAPE!, and features some seriously heavy, demented and Halloween-themed dubstep (and a touch of drumstep thrown in for good measure).

Enjoy the music, support the artists… And have a happy (and safe!) Halloween!

BASS FREQ Thursdays [Weekly Event]

Finally, electronic music finds a place in the nation’s oldest city!

Classic Blends, the production company SP works with locally in St. Augustine, will start a new weekly event at Sirens (formerly Ring of Fire, located at 113 Anastasia Blvd., in St. Augustine Beach) beginning September 1.

With rare one-off parties sporadically throughout the year, there has been a call for something more permanent. With the success of local events like 3rd Thursdays at The Garage, Meltdown, and the Classic Blends & Subliminal Messages Radio sponsored Common Enemies show earlier this year, Classic Blends aims to bring bass music to the masses with this new weekly event.

Come hear the latest and greatest in electronic music – from house and electro to dubstep, drum & bass and the increasingly popular moombahton sound – every Thursday, starting next week.

For more information, visit the event page on Facebook… and while you’re there, “like” the Subliminal Messages Radio page, and say hi to some of our friends!

Subliminal Messages moves to Friday nights!

Welcome, Messengers!

We’re super excited to announce that Subliminal Messages Radio will be airing on Friday nights starting tomorrow, April 8!

It was kind of a last-minute decision, but when WFCF’s management asked us to move to Fridays, we couldn’t say no. We got our start on Friday nights way back in 1996, so we couldn’t feel more at home… Fridays definitely fit our vibe a lot better, and it gives us a better chance to get your weekend off to a great start – no more getting amped up on Thursday nights just to have to work on Friday morning. Now, once the work week is done, all you have to do is kick on the radio (or click the stream – whichever you prefer) and get ready for the weekend!

Our friend Robbie Willy and his show, The Aftermath, will be moving from the 9:30-Midnight slot to cover 7-9:30, with an unnamed show to follow.

Join us tomorrow night at 7 for the first Friday edition of Subliminal Messages since 2000!

Methodus – FSOB 2011 Promo Mix

Miami Music Week is officially upon us, and all of the crew at Subliminal Headquarters are amped up… and with promo mixes like the one Jon Methodus of Rubik Records dropped today, we don’t see how everyone else can’t be!

As is his standard, Methodus comes thru with another head-nodding, ass-shaking DJ mix of epic proportions… and rightfully so, as its the official promo mix for Future Sound of Breaks Version 9.0. Shifting from DnB to dubstep mid-way thru, Meth gives us some insight to what we’re in for when we arrive in “the home of the mother f***ing bass.” Tracks from Total Science & S.P.Y., Bare, Armanni Reign and Bassnectar (just to name a few) will have you rocking out all the way to the 305!

Methodus – FSOB 2011 promo mix by Methodus

Download the mix now, and while you’re at it, head to his Soundcloud page to check his recent contribution to the Metalheadz podcast series, and make sure to catch him playing multiple events during MMW including FSOB, Bassdrive Sessions, Rubik vs. Sublife, and the legendary Metalheadz Blue Note Sessions… and of course his weekly Revival Radio show on Bassdrive.com.

WMC / Ultra / Miami Music Week

For years, the month of March has been home to a “holy week” of electronic music. Artists, DJs, equipment manufacturers and software developers, and thousands of fans of electronic music converge on Miami to talk shop, exchange ideas and music, and party their respective asses off.

This year, things have changed. For reasons many people are still not quite clear on, the organizers of the Winter Music Conference (emphasis added, as March in Miami isn’t exactly “winter”) have decided to split the conference from the parties – pushing the panels, demos, discussions, et al, to this week/weekend, and moving Ultra and the other massive events to the end of the month.

Instead of re-posting the same thing you can find on a ton of other sites, we’ve decided to simply link you over to one of our friends, a talented and dedicated Miami-an, Mr. John Gregory of Pattern Awareness and by1982, also known as somejerk.

Here’s a link to his post, giving you the inside scoop on the events and parties that have made March in Miami the stuff of legend.

Are you planning to attend any of these events? Let us know which ones you’re looking forward to most… maybe we’ll see you at a few!
